  1. Well, there you go. By now you've probaly seen it, so I'll 
  2. say this- did you like it?
  3.         Okay, so I admit that my Workbench isn't actually that 
  4. impressive, but it's something which I like rather a lot. The 
  5. background and the Hard Disk icons are all taken from pictures from 
  6. the amazing Anime series 'Neon Genesis Evangelion' (available from 
  7. AD Visison UK as a series of 13 videos). The series is excellent, and 
  8. the style is so superb I just had to use it for my Workbench 
  9. background. If you've never seen it (or, woe betide, never heard of 
  10. it) then shame on you!
  11.         You'll find the original image for the background included in 
  12. the 'Source' directory, just in case you like it yourself :)

  14.         I don't actually use a very sophisticated Workbench, when it 
  15. comes down to support programs and suchlike. I use the following 
  16. programs, which I have briefly described for convenience.
  17.  
  18.         Visualprefs     despite being incredibly unreliable, and 
  19.                         screwing around with Newicons a bit, the
  20.                         Visualprefs patch really does imrpove the look
  21.                         of your workbench. I had to persevere with 
  22.                         this a lot to get it to work, but when it   
  23.                         does, it's great.
  24.         
  25.         WBStartup+      Great little tool for controlling your 
  26.                         WB startup. Allows configuration of what to 
  27.                         use, and what task priority to assign. Handy.
  28.  
  29.         MagicMenu       A brilliant tool which allows expanded and 
  30.                         'sticky' menu's for ease of use- and they're 
  31.                         much nicer looking than the original menu's.
  32.  
  33.         CycleToMenu     A small but helpful tool which gives nice 
  34.                         little menu's rather than ackward cycle 
  35.                         gadgets.
  36.  
  37.         MultiCX         A great little tool which is highly 
  38.                         configurable and does the job of loads of 
  39.                         other commoditties- as well as some other 
  40.                         little tricks of it's own.

  42.         BBlank          Wonderful! A tool which gets rid of those 
  43.                         horrible grey borders on the screen,and gives
  44.                         nicer black ones.
  45.  
  46.         Toolsdaemon     A menu utility which allows user-configurable 
  47.                         menu's and assignment of keys to the new 
  48.                         items. Works well with Magicmenu.
  49.  
  50.         ReKeyIt         Another menu utility which allows for 
  51.                         reconfiguration of hotkeys for various menu 
  52.                         items.       
  53.  
  54.         ARQ             A friendly and nice little pacth which doesn't
  55.                         do a great deal other than drastically 
  56.                         enchance the System requesters which have a 
  57.                         habit of popping up at innoportune moments.
  58.  
  59.         Hotbar          Not too reliable but useful utility which 
  60.                         displays a number of user-configurable (I 
  61.                         love that word. No, really!) icons which 
  62.                         launch various programs. Faster than a menu 
  63.                         and much nicer looking.

  66. FINAL NOTE
  67.         My Amiga:       1200 with Typhoon 030/40 and 40Megs of 
  68.                         FastRam. Power B/W hand-held scanner, Phillips
  69.                         Monitor, Overdrive 560meg HD and 16x IDE 
  70.                         Eyetech CD-rom. Um, thats al folks.
